Artist's Comments

This is actually my first time to sculpt a full humanoid creature. Lots more to learn about anatomy.

it was difficult and almost made me quit. is sculpted the upper feathers first, and then i sculpted and baked around 60 flat feather shapes to make the lower set of wings and stuck em to the unbaked upper section of the wings... hard to word it.. check this [link]

hope that helps, not sure if its the right way for its my first time to sculpt bird wings.

See, this is an angel I could see actually existing in a mythical context. None of this ignoring the details of multiple heads/wings, and no simple "man with wings glued on" crap.

the stereotype angels- the man with wings or those baby like figure with wings are really un-biblical. they are romanticized angels by the classical artists.

My inspiration for this design is inspired from the vision of ezekiel in the old testament, 'the four living creatures'. similar creatures where again seen in a vision on 'revelation' which was written hundreds of years after ezekiel. i believe these angels are called seraphs.

Yeah, I agree totally. :)

As much as I adhere to Science and Biology, I also love mythology and mythological creatures. Angels are always the most fascinating, because they seem to indicate that we are not alone, and that the human shape is in God's image.

Incidentally, would you ever be interested in sculpting the Nephilim? I know those are more Fallen Angels/Demons, but their portrayals are few and far between.

will have to research more. not much on nephilims in the bible.

Well, they're mentioned extensively in the book of Enoch, and also Giants are mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls. But I understand about them not being much in the Bible Proper, they simply refer to them once or twice as "Giants".
